have you ever stopped to think WHY people hate the movement so much? heyyy maybe its because youre being an asshole

white cis straight men literally have the most power in the whole world. this is not okay, but to change it, youll have to convince them. no important dude is gonna listen to a bunch of raging teenagers who spout out bullshit like “kill all white people” or “kill all men”.

its like youre trying to become the teachers pet by not doing your homework ITS NOT GONNA WORK

so yes please stop being raging 2-year-olds and start being intelligent angry adults

Actually people would find reasons to hate the movement no matter how we acted. It really has less to do with the members of the social justice movements and more to do with, you know, the systematic oppression that we’re all subject to. Most people don’t like it when you try to change the system. It scares them, and therefore they try to come up with bullshit excuses for not paying attention to it. Instead of listening to articulate arguments, those who oppose the movement will go out of their way to try and de-legitimize it. It’s confirmation bias, plain and simple. If you think certain stereotypes about feminists are true, then guess what? You’ll look for and remember information that supports your belief, more than you will anything else feminists say.

Furthermore, anger in response to poor treatment IS entirely justified. This bullshit about “be nice so people will listen to you” is entirely unfounded. You can’t change people’s actions without fighting. Without being angry and passionate, people will think that your cause is weak and not one worth working HARD for.

Posts like these also infuriate me because they completely gloss over the fact that people in oppressed groups get negative reactions NO MATTER HOW we voice our opinions, or how civil we try to act to the people who literally make the world an unsafe place for us to live.

No matter how civil or “nice” the words I choose happen to be, I’m still going to get people retaliating in ways both on and off the internet. Cis/white/hetero people act like being called out by an angry oppressed person on the internet is the WORST THING in the world, and grossly overreact to it. It’s a total and complete lack of perspective.

Posts like this also take the blame for oppression off the actual system, and places it on the movement. “Well, if you were nicer people would listen” is only one step away from “if you were nicer you wouldn’t be oppressed, so this is your fault.” The system was already in place before the anger; the anger is a reaction to it. Who are you to tell anyone that they shouldn’t be angry for being treated poorly?
